FAQ

  • Q. What size is the oven that you use to cure powder coating?

    A. At our warehouse, we have a 2.4m wide x 2.1m high x 7m long oven for curing powder coats on all metals.

  • Q. Which products do you use to powder coat metals?

    A. As we are Dulux-accredited powder coaters and warranty registered applicators, our team uses top-quality powder coat products from Dulux. The Duralloy, Precious, Duratec and Electro colour ranges are all ideal for pre-treated architectural grade aluminium as well as mild, bright/semi-bright, black and blue steel.

All of these product ranges have been formulated to meet AS 3715 and AAMA 2603 standards. They also have the following added benefits:

    • Duralloy: Offers a variety of neutral solid colours as well as the Colorbond steel standard colour range. It maintains great colour retention, is backed with a 10-year warranty on steel and aluminium and selected colours are available with the RapidCure™ technology.
    • Precious: This range has all the same benefits as Duralloy but with a pearlescent finish to a wide array of colours.
    • Duratec: You can choose from solid, pearlescent or bright finishes on a large range of colours with Duratec. This powder coat is also formulated to meet AAMA 2604 standards.
    • Electro: This is the perfect range for anodised finishes, with excellent colour retention that can change subtly in appearance with the natural light throughout the day.

With these products, we can coat all metals including copper, iron, stainless steel, aluminium and alloys, just to name a few.

  • Q. What are the benefits of powder coating?

    A. While also being long lasting, powder coating has a wide range of benefits compared to liquid or wet paint finishes. These include:

    • Environmentally friendly: Powder coats are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and solvents, which are harmful to humans and the environment. Unlike liquid paints, powder coating can be reclaimed and reused resulting in minimal wastage.
    • Colour: Thanks to advances in technology, there are now endless bright powder coat colour choices to compete with wet paint varieties. This includes metallic and pearlescent finishes.
    • Durability: Ideal for agricultural equipment, outdoor furniture, frames and fencing, powder coating has an excellent reputation for its hardness and durability.
  • Q. How do I clean powder coated surfaces?

    A. Powder coating is used to colour and protect outdoor items such as window frames, fences and furniture. However, UV rays, pollution, dirt, grime and airborne salt can build up over time. To help extend the life powder coated surfaces, you should clean items every 3 months. For coastal or industrial areas, powder coated items should be cleaned more frequently. We recommend following these steps:

    1. Remove any loose dirt with a wet sponge
    2. Remove any built-up dirt, salt or other contaminants by scrubbing the surfaces with a soft brush and a diluted solution of solvent-free, mild detergent
    3. Thoroughly rinse down all surfaces with fresh water to remove any residue
  • Q. How long do powder coats last?

Because powder coating is extremely resilient, it can maintain the colour and finish for up to 10–20 years. This is why powder coating has been the choice for gas and oil pipelines that are buried in earth or underwater. The Dulux products we use are also covered by the Alumi Shield and Steel Shield warranties for colour, durability and corrosion.
